Value for beekeeping

Moringa is a fast-growing tree from northern India, grown in tropical and dry regions for its leaves and pods. Its creamy white, fragrant flowers give plenty of nectar and pollen and are visited by honey bees, stingless bees and large solitary bees. Because it flowers for much of the year in a suitable climate, it is a constant support source for tropical apiaries.

Flowering

Depending on the rainfall pattern it flowers in one or two main waves a year, with scattered flowers in between. It can start flowering in the first year after planting.

Honey and pollen

It is not common as a separate honey; it ends up in tropical mixed honeys.

Note for the beekeeper

Because of its drought tolerance and rapid growth it is often recommended in beekeeping and agroforestry projects in Africa. It does not tolerate any frost; in Turkey it can grow only in the warmest, sheltered spots on the Mediterranean coast, and there it has no importance for beekeeping.
