Clover of moist meadows flowering all summer; its short florets let honey bees work it easily, making it as productive as white clover.
Alsike clover looks like an intermediate between white clover and red clover; despite its scientific name (hybridum) it is not a hybrid but a separate species. The flowers in its white-pink heads have a short tube, so honey bees reach the nectar easily. Nectar secretion is high and considered equal to that of white clover; pollen is moderate.
From late May to August; it flowers again after cutting. It adapts well to damp, slightly acidic, heavy soils and to cool climates with frequent rain; in drought secretion drops markedly.
Its nectar is usually collected together with that of other clovers and goes into light, mild clover honey.
