Tropilaelaps: what it is and how to combat this threat to beekeeping

The tropilaelaps mite, more commonly known as tropi, is a recent threat looming over beekeeping. At the recent Meliza fair, its presence was confirmed in some Eastern European countries. Tropilaelaps is a mite, similar to varroa, that parasitizes bees and causes a disorder known as tropilaelapsosis. Recently, its arrival in Europe has been documented, specifically in Georgia, and there are suspicions that it may already be in Ukraine.
