Beekeeping in Challenging Conditions in Sason

In the Sason district of BATMAN, Yaşar Şahin (45) has been practicing traditional beekeeping with dark hives for 35 years under challenging terrain conditions. A father of eight living in the village of Derince, Şahin continues the beekeeping he started alongside his father as a child at the foothills of Mount Mereto, which has an elevation of 2973 meters. The honey produced by Şahin in this mountainous region, known for its endemic plant diversity, is sold for 2,000 lira per kilogram.
