A study quantifies the impact of the Asian hornet in Galicia. Its figures show that, on average, the velutina costs each beekeeper 561 euros. These numbers highlight the significant cost of this invasive species on Galician and Spanish beekeeping. Since it arrived in Spain around 2010, the Asian hornet, Vespa velutina, has become one of the greatest threats to Spanish beekeeping and, especially, to the hives in the northern part of the country, where it has wreaked havoc in recent years.
