Support for Beekeeping Exceeds 1 Billion

The support policy initiated in 2003 for the development of beekeeping in Turkey has led to an increase in honey production. The sector has received a total of 1 billion 12 million lira in support and exports honey to countries such as the USA, Germany, and Spain, in addition to the domestic market. Turkey is also known for its famous honey varieties such as Chestnut, Linden, Hawthorn, and Püren.

Bees play a crucial role in maintaining the natural balance, especially for the growth and fruiting of plants. This role is so significant that it is said, “if there are no bees, life on Earth will end in four years.” Although this statement is often attributed to the famous physicist Albert Einstein, it is not his, yet it highlights the importance of bees in the chain of life. May 20 is celebrated as World Bee Day to emphasize this importance.
