In Ağrı, which has ideal conditions for beekeeping with its unique plant flora, cool climate, and clean nature, honey production is increasing every year. In this city, which hosts the highest peak in Turkey, a total of 496 beekeepers, including 296 locals and 200 migratory beekeepers, are producing with approximately 77,000 bee hives as of this year. Among the producers, 34 women beekeepers constitute an important part of honey production in the region. This year, a target of 240 tons of honey production has been set for the city, while the increasing role of women in beekeeping holds strategic importance for local development. The Geven honey produced in Ağrı, which entered the branding process by receiving geographical indication certification in 2022, gains even more value through the efforts of women.
