Do not neglect precautions against bee allergy

Prof. Dr. Hikmet Tekin Nacaroğlu, who stated that the frequency of anaphylaxis has increased more than sevenfold in the last 10 years, emphasized that precautions against bee allergy should not be neglected. He said, “Individuals at risk of anaphylaxis, such as those with bee allergies, must have an anaphylaxis emergency action plan and knowledge of how to use an adrenaline injector. Additionally, patients with bee allergies should avoid wearing brightly colored clothing that may attract bees during the summer months, should not carry open foods like soda, fruit, or candy, and should refrain from using perfume.”

Prof. Dr. Hikmet Tekin Nacaroğlu from the Department of Pediatric Immunology and Allergy Diseases at Medipol Mega University Hospital warned against bee allergies that carry a high risk of anaphylaxis. Prof. Dr. Nacaroğlu stated, “Allergic reactions can be described as responses that occur when the immune system reacts excessively to normally harmless substances (allergens). Among these allergens, we must not forget the increased bee allergies and insect bites during the summer months, in addition to pollen, dust mites, animal hair, foods, and medications that can act as allergens. The most serious, dangerous, and potentially life-threatening condition among allergic reactions is anaphylaxis, or allergic shock. Studies have shown that the frequency of anaphylaxis has increased more than sevenfold in the last 10 years, parallel to the increasing prevalence of allergic diseases.”
