Beekeepers start their yearly honey collection process.

BLENNERHASSETT, W.Va. (WTAP) - Local beekeepers have started their annual honey harvest, with Bearsville Bees demonstrating the process from hive to bottle. Beekeepers Bob and Joy Spencer explained that several precise steps are necessary to get honey ready for sale. After removing the honey supers, they cut the caps off the honeycombs, extract the honey using a spinner, strain it, and then bottle it for distribution. Honey production begins in March, but collection doesn't start until late June. Spencer enjoys educating the public about bee conservation, noting the excitement of children when they visit the bee yard. “I’ve been beekeeping for 11 years, and I learn something new every day,” he remarked. Bearsville Bees will participate in the Honey Festival in August, where they will sell products and engage with the community.
