On the roof of the i8 building in the Werksviertel, a new bee colony has taken residence

On the roof of the i8 building in the Werksviertel, a new bee colony has taken residence. This initiative began in mid-May with around 3,000 bees, and the population is expected to grow to 20,000 by the end of the year. Sebastian Klapp, who manages twelve bee colonies in Munich, notes that urban beekeeping is gaining popularity, particularly on rooftops. Estimates suggest there are about 4,000 bee colonies in Munich.
According to Klapp, honey production is not the primary focus at this stage; the priority is to allow the bee colony to develop. However, he mentions that there might be some honey available this year due to the blooming linden trees and the colony's growth at the i8. The bees are housed in a special beehive designed to support their natural building behavior.
