Exploring the Challenges of Beekeeping in Alkham

Our beekeeping adventure began unexpectedly in July 2024 when a large swarm settled on our house, aiming to nest under the eaves. Despite our lack of preparation, we managed to coax the swarm into a borrowed hive from a neighbor. Excited by the experience, we quickly purchased our own DIY hive. After relocating the bees, they thrived, and the colony expanded throughout the summer, preparing for winter. However, our initial success was short-lived as the colony collapsed in late February, ending our first beekeeping attempt.
