Illinois data center expansion sparks concerns for honeybee populations.

Kasey Chronis reported on August 12, 2026, that studies indicate low-frequency electromagnetic fields (EMF) may negatively impact honeybee navigation, behavior, and pollination efficiency. In Illinois, a leading state for data centers, concerns arise about the EMFs generated by such facilities. Additionally, severe weather poses risks to urban hives, as heavy rainfall can deplete the nectar essential for bees' sustenance.
