Somerset beekeepers cautious following discovery of Asian hornet colony

Beekeepers are on high alert following the discovery of a colony of Asian hornets in Somerset. Initial reports indicated that a beekeeper spotted the hornets near Aisholt and alerted the National Bee Unit (NBU), which is part of the Government’s Animal and Plant Health Agency. An NBU team utilized advanced technology to track the hornets, which hunt within an 800-yard radius of their nest, and successfully located and destroyed the nest over the bank holiday weekend. However, the Somerset Beekeepers Association clarified that the incident actually occurred near Ashcott, not Aisholt.
