After 45 years away, 56-year-old Yıldız Açıkyer returned to her hometown of Yedisu in Bingöl, continuing her late mother-in-law's beekeeping despite her husband’s allergy to bee stings. Açıkyer moved to Aydın at age five due to her father's job and lived there for many years. She married a fellow local, has two children and four grandchildren, and decided to return home after her husband, İlhami Açıkyer, retired six years ago. Living with her mother-in-law in Yeşilgöl village, Açıkyer took over the beekeeping when her mother-in-law fell ill.
