Today marks the 50th anniversary of the beloved character Maya the Bee, a cultural icon in children's entertainment. Millions are transported back to their childhoods when they hear Karel Gott's velvety voice sing "In einem unbekannten Land…," recalling the adventures of the cheeky bee as she explored sunlit poppy fields and listened to her lazy friend Willi.

The animated series "Maya the Bee" premiered on September 9, 1976, on ZDF, introducing one of Germany's most cherished children's characters. Created as a collaboration between Germany, Austria, and Japan, the series featured a German concept and script, while the animation was produced by Nippon Animation, known for classics like "Heidi" and "Pinocchio."
