Impact of herbicides on honeybee populations

Herbicides are commonly used in gardening and agriculture to manage weeds, attracting honeybees that are essential for pollination. A recent study from Virginia Tech indicates that glyphosate, a prevalent herbicide, negatively impacts honeybee foraging and could jeopardize hive stability. Published in the Journal of Experimental Biology, the research involved training bees to forage at feeders, one containing glyphosate and the other without. After three days, bees exposed to glyphosate exhibited a 13% decline in foraging activity.
