Darlington beekeepers invite community to visit local apiary.

This weekend, the Darlington Beekeepers Association (DBKA) opened its apiary to the public in the Denes, attracting crowds for a live beekeeping demonstration and honey tasting. The event, held on Saturday, September 12, from 2pm to 4pm, aimed to educate attendees about the significance of honey bees through various informational displays.
Among the attendees was Darlington Mayor Councillor Helen Crumbie, who donned a beekeeper's suit, and MP Lola McEvoy, who posed with a jar of honey from the Denes Apiary. Established in 2012, the DBKA manages two apiaries: one in the Denes and another at Onpath Wind Farm near Sadberge, with the Denes site housing around 20 hives that can accommodate 30,000 to 60,000 bees each during summer.
