Galician beekeepers are raising alarms about the potential loss of thousands of hives due to a "perfect storm" affecting the sector. Seven organizations have come together to issue a manifesto highlighting an unprecedented crisis driven by climate change, biodiversity loss, rising production costs, honey imports, varroa infestations, and notably, the spread of the Asian hornet (vespa velutina). Under the slogan "For our bees, our future, and our land," they emphasize that the issue extends beyond beekeeping, stressing the bees' vital role in pollination and ecosystem conservation, which also impacts fruit, wine production, and livestock farming.
