Recently, an eastern hornet nest was located and destroyed in Cartagena, marking a growing concern in the Murcia Region. This summer, sightings, particularly in the Campo de Cartagena, have alarmed beekeepers due to the hornet's expanding presence, now even in urban areas. Professional traps have filled quickly, indicating a notable increase in the population. Carlos Zafra, a veterinarian and head of the Murcia Beekeepers Association, emphasizes the need for urgent attention to prevent the situation from worsening, similar to issues already faced in parts of Andalusia.
