Shanna Upchurch combines bees, literature, and nature in her work.

Shanna Upchurch, a children's author and hobbyist beekeeper from the Rockwall area, merges her love for writing and beekeeping by bringing bees to her book readings. Recently, she showcased her work at Brittany’s Favorite Things in Melissa, where she displayed thousands of live honeybees in a secure enclosure, captivating both children and adults with the importance of bees beyond the hive. Her debut picture book, The Honey Bee Highway, published by Disney in April 2026, was inspired by a conversation with a master gardener about the movement of honeybee colonies across the U.S. for pollination, particularly during California's almond bloom.
