In Fortaleza, stingless bees are being raised in backyards and even apartments, a practice known as meliponiculture. This method allows for the maintenance of native species in specialized boxes, aiding plant pollination and enabling the production of honey and other products. For instance, João de Almeida's backyard hosts six native Northeast species: Jandaíra, Marmelada, Canudo, Jataí, Jati, and Uruçu Amarela.

João's initiative also aims to promote and increase the population of these species. His meliponary produced 25 liters of honey this year, with prices ranging from R$ 300 to R$ 1,000 per liter, depending on the species and production characteristics.
