The beekeepers' association states that it has been preparing for the possible appearance of the Asian hornet for several years. One person within the association has been professionally trained to identify and handle this invasive species.
Following the first detections in the Swiss Rhine Valley this year, its appearance in Liechtenstein was anticipated. After the discovery in Schaan, the bee inspectorate and the association's expert are working closely to assess the situation and record any further occurrences. There is also close communication with the Office for Forest, Nature and Agriculture. The goal is to detect any spread early, keep the Asian hornet population as small as possible, and prevent uncontrolled expansion.
