Joseba Aramburu, a beekeeper from Salceda de Caselas, has moved about 100 hives from Salceda, O Porriño, and Salvaterra to the Chantada area in Lugo to protect his bees from the Asian hornet (vespa velutina). Previously, he had nearly 300 hives but lost around 100 last year due to hornet attacks. He relocated half of his hives inland and tried to protect the rest locally with electric harps, but most of those died. This year, he moved all his hives to avoid losses.
