Hayrettin Kurtçu, a 75-year-old retired chief guard from Bursa, turned his beekeeping hobby started about 50 years ago into a production with 160 hives. Working with his wife, he produces between 800 kilograms and 1 ton of honey annually.
Living in Karaoğlan Neighborhood of Mustafakemalpaşa district, Kurtçu began beekeeping with 25 hives bought from Karacabey. He continued beekeeping even while serving as a chief guard in prison, visiting his apiary after work.
