Beekeepers in several northern Moroccan cities, especially in forested areas, have reported swarms of the eastern hornet invading bee hives, posing a threat to these colonies. The National Union of Professional Beekeepers emphasized the urgent need for a plan to combat this pest that exacerbates the challenges faced by the sector.

Beekeepers confirmed that the eastern hornet, previously unknown in Morocco, now threatens bee hives by attacking and preying on bees at hive entrances to feed its larvae. The national coordinator of professional beekeepers, Mohamed Stitou, stated that this dangerous insect appeared in Morocco a few months ago, highlighting its severity due to heavy attacks on hives.
