Bees Thrive on Liverpool Shopping Centre Roof

A Liverpool shopping centre is home to thousands of bees kept in hidden hives on its roof, with some staff trained in beekeeping. St Johns Shopping Centre installed two hives in 2021 and added a third last year. During summer, the three hives house about 180,000 bees.

This year, the bees produced enough honey for 150 jars, with local schoolchildren helping to design the labels. The initiative was started by St Johns and NG Bailey, the site's maintenance provider, to support the environment. Five staff members are now trained beekeepers.
