The Asian hornet (Vespa velutina) is increasingly spreading in the Euskirchen district. While only five nests were reported in 2024, the number rose to 80 in 2025 and by the end of September 2026, 139 nests have been found and removed.

It exerts pressure on local insect fauna, beekeeping, and agriculture. Like the native European hornet, it is generally defensive but becomes aggressive when its nest is approached.
