Efforts Continue to Control Asian Hornet Spread in Guernsey

Guernsey's government confirmed that efforts to control the spread of Asian hornets continue despite a rise in nests. Asian hornets are invasive predators that threaten various insects, especially honey bees.
Annelotte Baas-Jehan, the island's invasive species policy officer, described this season as busy with more queens and nests found, but said the situation remains manageable. She encouraged the public to report any nests to aid removal efforts.
The government highlighted that Asian hornets pose a significant threat to local biodiversity, with honey bees making up 39% of their diet. Nest numbers have grown from eight in 2025 to 22 this season, with more nests likely undiscovered.
