A young bear has been visiting an apiary in the Voronovsky forestry area near the village of Perevoz, Vitebsk, repeatedly opening hives and feeding on honey. The apiary houses 26 bee colonies in total. After the first attack, workers installed a camera trap to identify the cause of the damage, reports the publication “Vitybichi.”
On the night of July 29, the camera recorded the young bear, which regularly comes to the apiary. It is strong enough to open and damage hives and during one visit tried to drag an entire hive into the forest but failed to get far. Forestry staff plan to install a deterrent device to protect the bee colonies from further attacks.
