Volunteers from the Zaadteeltstudieclub Tholen received a special set on Tuesday, October 6, to safely remove nests of the Asian hornet in the rural area of Tholen. After training, they will use these materials to responsibly control the nests. Immediately after the handover, a nest was removed near the church tower in Sint-Maartensdijk.

The Asian hornet is an invasive species that threatens other insects, including honey bees. Since it has few natural enemies in the Netherlands, it can negatively affect biodiversity and pollination. Therefore, the municipality is working to control the spread of this hornet in public spaces.
