The state of North Rhine-Westphalia has been running a support program for beekeepers to combat the Asian hornet for several months, which is in high demand. According to Agriculture Minister Silke Gorißen (CDU), over two-thirds of the planned 150,000 euros have already been applied for and approved. An increase in funding is planned if necessary.

Launched in May, the program provides beekeepers with training, protective equipment, and premiums for removing nests. So far, nearly 35,000 euros in premiums have been paid out, distributed as 164 premiums of 150 euros each for primary nests and 34 premiums of 300 euros each for secondary nests. Additionally, 85 protective suits worth around 21,000 euros and 21 control kits worth 10,000 euros have been approved.
