Over the past decades, the productivity of bee colonies in the Tambov region has increased from 60 to 100-120 kg of honey per hive, linked to climate changes. This was reported by Maxim Chepurnov, head of the Tambov Beekeepers Society.
According to him, older beekeepers recall that a hive used to yield 50-60 kg of honey, whereas now it reaches 100-120 kg. This trend has persisted over recent decades, despite exceptions like the 2010 drought.
The productivity growth is associated with climate changes. The climate is changing, and nectar gathering conditions vary significantly across different parts of the region, such as Zherdevsky in the south and Morshansky in the north, but overall the hive produces more honey.
