In the center of Leuven, an Asian hornet nest was eradicated after students had previously shot arrows at it. This could have been dangerous as hornets may attack. The nest was treated with a lethal powder, eliminating the threat.

This morning, exterminator Fie Kym went to the Maria Theresiastraat where the nest hangs in a gutter. Because it is a busy street with many students and commuters, the police were contacted beforehand and closed the street for about twenty minutes for safety. The nest is high and not reachable through a window, so Kym used a long lance to inject the powder into the nest. Although the nest is still visible, there is no more activity. Some hornets may return from hunting, but there is no danger to people anymore.
