Employees of a pest control company discovered a nest of Asian hornet in the attic of a house located in the historic center of Gandia on Thursday. Since this is an invasive and dangerous species for both animals and humans, authorities including the emergency number 112 and the police were notified and arrived at the property.

Based on the nest's size and characteristics, it was suspected to be an Asian hornet nest, which was later confirmed. This marks the first confirmed presence of this invasive species in the area. The Asian hornet poses a threat mainly to honey bees and other insects, which it preys on to feed its larvae. It can also become aggressive towards humans, pets, and animals if threatened or if its nests are disturbed.
