León's beekeeping sector has gained national recognition for innovation. Raquel Fernández González of Los Izanes TC received the first prize for Excellence in Agricultural Innovation from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) under the Rural Women Innovation Excellence Awards.

The award honors the shared ownership beekeeping operation in Soto y Amío, located within the Biosphere Reserve of the Omaña and Luna Valleys. Their business model focuses on utilizing natural mountain resources to produce quality products while integrating tourism, education, and environmental conservation.
