In Vila Flor, over 150 Asian hornet nests have been destroyed this year, marking a significant increase compared to 55 nests eliminated in 2025. The municipality's president, Pedro Lima, estimates that by the end of 2026, around 200 nests may be removed if the current pace continues.

The invasive species is not evenly distributed across the area, with a higher concentration of nests in the Vale da Vilariça region, attributed to favorable agroclimatic conditions and microclimate. To address the rise in nests, Vila Flor's municipal authorities have strengthened their response through the Civil Protection, Technical Forestry Office, and Municipal Forest Firefighters, ensuring timely intervention without waiting lists.
