High-speed footage captured at 300 frames per second shows a side view of a honeybee sting injecting venom into a gel that mimics artificial skin (the original video is played at double speed in the article). When a portion of the sting, separated by fine tweezers, is inserted, a pair of lancets inside the sting move back and forth, autonomously burrowing deep into the model skin. The artificial skin used in the experiment does not absorb or draw in the venom, causing the injected venom to be pushed back to the surface. (Ramirez-Esquivel et al. 2026/PNAS)
