The department of Nariño is advancing in strengthening beekeeping and environmental conservation through a project benefiting three rural organizations in Leiva, Policarpa, and Sapuyes. The initiative aims to create economic opportunities for farming families and protect bees and other pollinators.

According to the Nariño government, the project has an investment of $41,110,000 allocated for equipment, supplies, seeds, training, and technical assistance. A total of 50 hives were distributed: 34 to Leiva, 11 to Policarpa, and 5 to Sapuyes. The beneficiary organizations are Apiagro Ecoleiva, Ideas Medioambientales, and the Agropecuary Association ESCO. This support will help improve hive management and expand honey and related product marketing.
