The Municipality of Penela warns residents that the Asian hornet (Vespa velutina) remains active at higher levels than usual for this time of year due to current weather conditions. It advises the public not to approach, destroy nests, or capture these hornets, and to avoid sudden movements or attempts to repel them, especially near nests.

If a nest is found, people should keep a safe distance and avoid disturbing it. Reporting sightings to authorities is crucial, including precise location details and a safely taken photo if possible. The municipality stresses that reporting sightings and nests is vital for proper control of this invasive species and public safety.
