Nests of the Asian hornet (vespa velutina) have been found in Kaarst at Hinterfeld and Xantener Street. Beekeeper Carsten Zeyer expects more discoveries in the coming weeks. A large secondary nest hangs in a deciduous tree at Hinterfeld. The colder, windier weather causes leaves to fall, revealing more nests. Photos of a huge nest were shared in a Kaarst Facebook group. Additional nests are known at Xantener Street/Hülser Weg corner and on private land in Holzbüttgen.
