A large Asian hornet nest was removed from about 42 meters high in Geel city park using an aerial work platform. Instead of the usual pesticide permethrin, diatomaceous earth was used because it is environmentally friendly and harmless to other animals, according to exterminator Tom Binnemans.

The nest measured 80 to 90 centimeters in diameter. After spraying with diatomaceous earth, the nest dries out and dies, eventually falling down on its own. This product is specifically effective against Asian hornets and does not harm fish, unlike permethrin.
