Four hornet nests have been found in the Kleverpark neighborhood and surrounding area in Haarlem. Beekeepers want to remove them but receive no financial support from the municipality or province, so they are raising funds themselves. Jan-Pieter van Wijngaarden reports weekly incidents of tree workers panicking due to hornets.

One nest hangs above the bike path on Verspronckweg and is clearly visible as the leaves fall. A second nest is nearby, and two more nests are high in trees near the former bowling alley on Orionweg. The yellow-legged hornet is a wasp species not native here and preys on bee colonies. The Haarlem beekeepers' association is concerned about the impact.
