Honeybees are vital to agriculture and local ecosystems, yet many people know little about these pollinators. Residents of Panola County can learn about honeybees and beekeeping basics at the Horticulture in the Evening event on October 20 at Sammy Brown Library.

Dr. Garrett Slater, a bee specialist from AgriLife Extension, will present "Bees! Understanding Them and Starting Bees at Home" at 6 p.m. The talk will cover honeybee biology, colony function, and their importance to agriculture and the environment. Attendees will also receive guidance on starting home beekeeping.

The event is free, but participants should RSVP by October 19 by calling the Panola County AgriLife Extension office at 903-693-0380.
