A sun bear (Helarctos malayanus), the smallest bear species native to tropical rainforests in Indonesia and Malaysia, entered a residential yard on Jalan G Obos Ujung, Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, on Sunday, October 18, 2026. The bear was attracted by a honey bee hive behind the house and damaged two wooden wall panels while trying to reach it.

Karim, a forest ecosystem observer from the Natural Resources Conservation Section of Central Kalimantan's Conservation Agency (BKSDA), inspected the site after residents reported the incident. He confirmed claw marks and signs of the bear feeding on the property.
