Citrus Farmer Boosts Income Through Beekeeping

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has supported Pastor Aloius Apa, a citrus grower in Chimbu since 1996. Over nearly 30 years, beekeeping became part of his family farm, adding a new income source and opportunities.

Farming challenges include dry spells linked to El Nino, during which the family uses mulching, water storage, and irrigation to sustain production. Having both citrus and honey provides multiple income streams during tough times.
