Drenthe bees affected by infectious disease

Infection and measures

In several bee colonies of a beekeeper in the province of Drenthe, the infectious disease American foulbrood has been discovered. According to RTV Drenthe, the hives have been destroyed to prevent further spread of the disease. The infected colonies were located close to each other at two sites, in the municipalities of Emmen and Borger-Odoorn. Other hives within a radius of three kilometers have been inspected. A transport ban of thirty days is in effect in the area, but this period may be extended. The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority will conduct inspections during this period.
