Thieves Target Bees: Honey is Gold

Criminal organizations in New Zealand have set their sights on honey bees. By stealing and trading the bees, the gangs aim to profit from the high honey prices.

"It doesn't matter whether it's bees or crystal meth. It's a new gold rush," says Laurence Burking, a beekeeper in Dannevirke, about 200 kilometers north of the capital Wellington. Several of his hives have been stolen.
