The Role of Bees in Agriculture and Food Security in Colombia

Bees play an important role in food security, agriculture, and the preservation of ecosystems. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of hives and honey production in Colombia. According to figures from the Ministry of Agriculture, by 2021 Colombia had 140,335 hives in the country and around 4,677 apiaries. The coexistence between agriculture and beekeeping in this growth is fundamental.
