Bees play a fundamental role in safeguarding biodiversity

Bees contribute to safeguarding biodiversity in Mexico, with 46 species of stingless bees known, 12 of which are endemic. Some are raised for honey, wax, or royal jelly, an activity known as beekeeping.

An example of conservation and beekeeping is the Mocontun and Pccheil ejidos in the municipality of Tekax, Yucatán, who harvest honey from hives located in their tropical forests. They know that to continue this economic activity, it is essential to conserve the Mayan jungle.
