Luisa Ruz: Guardian of the Bees in Chile

The academic Luisa Ruz (Valparaíso, 82 years old) climbs the stairs and walks through the hallways of the central house of the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV) with the same pace and agility as the twenty-something students rushing to their classes. Every day she arrives at the university to continue her task as the guardian of the largest collection of bees in Chile and one of the most important in Latin America. It contains around 60,000 specimens of native bees from the country, representing more than 270 different species, attesting to the natural heritage of the country.
